Welcome from the Team
The RISE San Luis Initiative is a collaboration between Community Stakeholders, Centennial School District R-1, History Colorado, and Colorado-based artist/educators to bring together the tools, technology, and know-how to develop new hyper-local curricula in history and digital art.
In addition to addressing technological needs for students and teachers in the San Luis Valley, the initiative has two overlapping curricular goals: creating a 4th grade state history through the unique lens of San Luis, Colorado and the surrounding valley, and creating a High School Digital Arts Curriculum that will have students learn practice-led research methods and technical skills in digital media. Guiding principles for the 4th Grade Curriculum is available here, and the High School Digital Arts Curriculum here.
Our goal is for students to not just better see themselves in their own history, but become the makers, shapers, and conservators of that history.
Project Lead: Kimba Rael, Principal of Centennial High School
4th Grade Curriculum: History Colorado, Eric Carpio & April Legg
High School Digital Arts Curriculum: Sarah McCormick & Kevin Sweet
